Winchester III branch is one of two Winchester branches, I and II having combined earlier this year. We meet fortnightly for a variety of events, in person and on Zoom, and some of the meetings are held jointly with Winchester I.
One of the highlights of our year was the Queen’s Jubilee Lunch in the summer, organised by all Winchester branches and held in a member’s garden.
When planning the 2022 programme, we didn’t know whether there would be new Covid restrictions, so in the warmer months we planned several outdoor visits and events, also talks on Zoom with speakers from further afield whom we wouldn’t normally have been able to have in person.
Not far from Winchester is the National Trust house and garden of Mottisfont which has a wonderful rose garden. We brought a picnic and then wandered through the huge rose garden.
We organise 2 or 3 events with husbands and partners each year, usually in the evening where we provide a meal with wine, followed by a speaker (one who would appeal to the husbands too!). One of these events took place on a warm summer’s day when we had lunch outside a lovely pub.
Our committee meets regularly to plan upcoming events, and it’s a great social occasion. If someone cannot be physically with us, we simultaneously hold the meeting on Zoom so that they can take part.
